THE BONES FUND

A rose, drawn by Liam Payne

A non-profit dedicated to highlighting and continuing Liam Payne's philanthropy through music, merchandise and donations.

Streaming royalties for BONES; a song about loss dedicated to Liam Payne by his cousin Ross Harris, are collected and added to The Pot.

Donations come from anyone, anywhere - you can add to The Pot or purchase a piece of THE BONES FUND Merch, where every penny of profit goes to charity.

Everything gets distributed to the different causes Liam worked with, fundraised for and donated to during his life and career.

01 - HOW IT WORKS

THREE WAYS
TO GIVE

02 - FOR LIAM

A SONG
FOR A CAUSE

Liam gave both quietly and publicly; whether it was his work with UNICEF and Soccer Aid, his fundraising for the Trussell Trust, or his late-night donations to young people who needed life-saving surgery around the world. Across his career, he helped raise millions for good causes.

During one night in Summer 2024, a midnight FaceTime between cousins turned into a giving spree. Together, we scrolled through JustGiving and GoFundMe pages and found children whose pots needed completing. £2,000 here, £700 there - in one night Liam donated nearly £10,000 to young people around the world. He would have donated more, but his bank started to block the transactions.

After Liam's death only a few weeks later, I knew I wanted to do something to ensure his philanthropic legacy lived on. I've been a musician all my life and writing a song was the natural response. Shortly after finishing the song, I had the idea to build a pot of money from royalties and do the same thing we did on that FaceTime - donate to people and causes that need it.

BONES is a song for anyone who's lost someone - and THE BONES FUND is something to try to help Liam's philanthropic legacy live on, and continue it.

Royalties collected from streaming services - Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube, for example - go straight into The Pot. From there, we send money to different causes around the world, causes close to Liam's heart.

And this isn't just about a song - in addition to collecting royalties, you can donate directly to The Pot, or buy THE BONES FUND Merch, where every penny of profit goes to good causes.

Read below about the causes we're supporting and some of the work Liam did with all of them.

03 - BONES

ONE SONG
TWO VERSIONS

A song for Liam; a song for anyone who's lost someone

BONES and BONES Acoustic - both shrink-wrapped sleeves side by side

I originally released BONES on the 30th August 2025, shortly after Liam's first birthday since he passed. Although the process of writing the song was therapeutic in its way of helping me process my grief, releasing it proved to be heavier than I realised. To tell the truth, I didn't listen to BONES for six months after its release.

A bit of time away helped. It gave me some perspective, some time to heal, and allowed me to follow through with launching THE BONES FUND - the plan from the very beginning.

One year on, I've released a special acoustic version to officially launch THE BONES FUND - with the royalties from both songs going straight into The Pot.

If you want to give to the cause but also have something to hold on to, buy a piece of THE BONES FUND Merch. Products are provided by Fourthwall - they're print-on-demand, as eco-friendly as we can find and, let's be honest, they look pretty cool.

Our prices reflect buying a product that includes a charitable donation. Fourthwall is an American company, so prices are set in USD ($) - we've adapted these to GBP (£) and euros (€), which is why they might look a little unconventional.

07 - HOW IT'S RUN

WHERE THE
MONEY SITS

THE BONES FUND is the trading name of The Bones Project Ltd, a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales. A company limited by guarantee has no shareholders and pays no dividends - there is no one to take a profit out of it.

We will apply to the Charity Commission for registered charity status as soon as we are able to do so. Until that application is made and granted, The Bones Project Ltd is not a registered charity, and we say so plainly wherever it matters.

The aim is simple: all profits are donated to the causes listed on this site.

  • The song

The Bones Project Ltd owns the master rights to BONES, gifted to the company by Ross Harris. All master royalties collected by our distributor, DistroKid, go to the fund.

  • Donations

Donations are handled by Stripe. Until The Bones Project Ltd is a registered charity we cannot offer Gift Aid, and we cannot waive Stripe's handling and processing fees.

  • Merchandise

Merchandise is provided by Fourthwall. Our prices reflect a healthy charitable donation, and around 60-70% of the profit on each item is donated.

The Bones Project Ltd acts as a non-profit, but occasionally payments will be made from The Pot where necessary for the management and growth of the fund. These include, but are not limited to, domain and website hosting, email hosting, mailing list management, marketing costs, legal costs and other necessary expenses.
